October 12, 2015 - The One with Tracting in the Rain

This has been a great week here in Albermarle. It was pretty solid overall. Our investigators are starting to drop off but we have been taking in the counsel of a mission wide call in we had on Wednesday night and have found some wonderful new people we are excited to start working with.

The conference call was all about how we need to be putting more of an emphasis on finding new investigators and consecrate three hours a day to finding. That can be a bit tricky for us when we run from appointment to appointment but we are excited to see what miracles it brings.

One lady in particular comes to mind. We were in a town looking for a less active member we had never contacted before but it didn't work out. We were hoping to use Family History to bridge the gap for him to come back to church. Unfortunately he wasn't home so we tried talking to his neighbors. They weren't interested but when we asked who do you know?, he said we should go down the street onto another street and at the end of that street was a part of town where people needed the gospel. We followed his advice. After knocking on the doors of some disinterested people, we found tis woman. She was very open and accepting to our message. It turns out she had talked to the Elders about a year and a half ago but it never really went anywhere, though she did have fond memories of the experience. She seems a lot more
ready this time and accepted the invitation to be baptized. We are going back on Tuesday!

Funny side story, one of the ladies we talked to who wasn't interested was convinced that we were Amish polygamists from Pennsylvania. When we told her we weren't she said that's what she read. We told her that weren't again. But she still didn't get it. ;)

We were able to use Family History to pick back up a former investigator!  We went over to teach a different investigator one afternoon with a member but they weren't home. We knew this woman lived
right nearby so we went over to talk with her. Her issue before was that she was on a sabbatical from church. We introduced family history this time and she was really interested. We told our Family History director about her and he thinks he might be closely related to her! Him and his wife are going to pick her up and bring her to the church on
Wednesday night to help get her started! Our missions presidents son was right when he said that the Spirit of Elijah might be the only way to get people to the church!

This week we also decided to go tracking in the rain. Without umbrellas. We got absolutely soaked. We walked around and knocked on doors for two hours on Saturday morning. We thought that would be a good time to catch people at home. Turns out it wasn't.

This week we also went on exchange with our zone leaders. Elder Hettinger came here to Albemarle with me. It was a good exchange. We taught a lot which was nice. It's always good to show off all the great things happening here rather than having a bad day and having to be like,  I swear we do better than this!

Overall a good week! Hopefully everything stays the same this time
around for transfers.

Send me pictures, read your scriptures,
Love you!
